Sathi Streeton has been involved in art for over 35 years, having started with Chinese brush painting in London in the 1980s. From an early age she was particularly receptive to the colour and beauty of nature and human emotion. Sketching her surroundings was a way of life. Throughout the 90s she worked mainly with water colour and embroidery, holding several successful solo exhibitions in Doha, Qatar. After moving to Abu Dhabi in 1992, Sathi started to develop her talents in oil painting and sculpting. She has most recently moved into ceramic and pottery, working at the Abu Dhabi Cultural Foundation. Sathi Streeton is a truly multi-faceted artist. Her subject matter dictates her medium and today these include embroidery, water colour, gouache, acrylic, oil, Chinese brush and calligraphy. 

 

Over the past two decades in the UAE Sathi has held well over a dozen exhibitions at venues such as the Al-Qibab gallery, the Hemisphere Design gallery, the Abu Dhabi Cultural Foundation as well as major hotels such as the Meridien and Sheraton. 

 

A Montessori teacher by profession, Sathi has made enormous contributions to teaching art to young and old at the Cultural Foundation as well as disadvantaged youths at the Abu Dhabi Special Care Centre where she volunteered her time for almost 15 years. In recent years Sathi has focused on honing her own skills across all mediums. The works on display include sculpture and ceramics as well as oil on canvas and embroidery. Most interestingly, Sathi has worked to combine these disciplines; her collection holds some gems in the form of mixed oil/embroidery work. The title piece entitled “Freedom” is an example of this innovative style.

 

Sathi’s inspiration is clearly displayed and comes from two principal themes – children and nature. Many of the works combine these two in equal measure - for instance “Paradise” where Emirati children are depicted in an abstract style playing with horses and birds in a garden.

 

As well as working on her private collection, Sathi accepts instructions for commissioned work from both private collectors and institutions.
